Rome Cut By Lil' Ceasars

Nothing new in this codebase. I was hoping to explore the Succession data a little more and flesh out a first draft of a combined HTML/Plotly-Dash page with some interactivity. I chose a more modest goal today because I am only working at half-strength. American Airlines stranded me in Charlotte airport for thirteen hours. When I went to complain on Instagram I found that the photo posts seem to be a venue for issuing complaints. I wonder if sentiment analysis of the photo comments for an airline is a reliable way to consider which airline to use. I have not had much luck with any domestic airline in the last few years. Might be interesting to look into.

What I did get done is some refactoring to do what I did for Succession into a broader, parameterized way so I can hook together the web scraping and the episode:word_list breakdown parts. I tried it out on Deadwood and got all episodes transcript’s word_list into a Python dictionary. Another idea I had for exploring that particular show is ranking profanity. That show had some very colorful and inventive swearing. I suppose that’s lewd data that I ought not publish on a site with my name. So if you wanna see a granular breakdown of the use of swearwords in the masterpiece of harsh language that is Deadwood, you will have to make an explicit request.

Almost done with that Antony+Cleopatra vs Ocatavian non-fiction book. The battle of Actium is the third act. I thought I would be bored by the description of how naval combat would be done, but the author spelled out what was happening geographically well enough for me to breeze through an exciting look at trireme style warfare that turned out to be more important for holding together the Roman empire than incredible land armies.
